I personally think that March is one of the best months of the year. People will say December because of Christmas or June because of summer, but March is the best. High school, college, and professional baseball are in full swing. March Madness is underway, the NBA is in mid-season, and the NFL is going through off-season drama. For a sports fan, there isn’t much more you could ask for. With all these sporting events happening, high school baseball is my favorite. There is nothing like the fun of playing baseball without having any of the pressures of playing in college or professional ball.

March Madness is the second-best part of the month. The “Hype” around the tournament is something like no other in sports. Although my favorite team, Auburn, is not in the tournament this year, I will still be watching closely. I also quite enjoy watching MLB spring training. Although I don’t know all of the players and some of the main starters don’t play, I still find it interesting. Being able to see some of the future stars of the MLB is quite cool. Spring training also gives a good warm-up into the regular season.

This week the baseball team started playing games. We had 4 games this week. We played John Curtis and Breaux Bridge, two 5A schools, Ascension Episcopal, the number one school in 2A, and Church point. We only won one of the games this week, but We played well against Brough Bridge and Ascension Episcopal. We have improved throughout the week, and I believe we will win all three games next week.

One thing that the team can improve on is hitting. As a young team that hasn’t seen many varsity innings, this will be our week spot. We have only collected a few hits through our first 4 games. We have been able to get a few hits here and there, along with some walks, but if we want to be a great team, we need to get more timely hits. For example, this weekend, we have the bases loaded with one out twice and did not score a run. IF we could have gotten a timely hit in those situations, we probably would have beaten Breaux Bridge

What I have learned

This year in English, I have learned many new skills. The hands-on and project learning have worked very well for me. These methods have made it easier for me to comprehend and understand what we have learned. I think the thing that has improved the most for me is talking or sharing in class. At the beginning of the year, the class struggled with talking, but through doing group work and having many discussions, I think myself and the class have greatly improved at sharing. My analysis skills have so greatly improved throughout the year. I now know how to get a deeper understanding out of the books I read.
Another more recent skill I have learned is time management. At the beginning of the year, Mrs. Duke said we would need to use our time wisely. I figured I would be able to put things off like I always did. I soon found that this would not work. Putting thins off till the last minute doesn’t allow for thorough work. Sometimes I let the work get on top of me and have to do it at the last minute, but I feel that I have improved and want to continue improving at using my time wisely.

On Monday, the baseball team had its first team practice. Although we have been able to practice in small groups of 4, the 25th was the first day we could have full team practice. The field was wet this week, so it was hard to use, but we did what we could. If the infield was dry enough, we took ground balls while the outfield got pop-ups. We also did team flyball communications. Off the field, we hit in the batting cages and had 2 team lifts this week. It has been a little strange having to learn a new system, but the coaches have helped me, and I now have a feel for the way it runs.

Saturday, we have our first team intrasquad. This is to get a feel for playing live baseball again and to help the coaches decide who will play. Next Saturday, we have a scrimmage against St. Thomas Aquinas, then the Saturday after that, we have a scrimmage against ACHS, and then we have a jamboree the Saturday after that. The scrimmages should help us warm-up before our first real game of the season against John Curtis.

Finally, after waiting for the rivets, they came in. Marlow and I were able to fix the ship. The morning we were set to leave, Marlow and I overheard chatter about Kurtz. It was rumored that he became ill and passed away. Marlow was distraught at this news as he was looking forward to meeting Kurtz. For the remainder of the trip, Marlow was distracted by the idea of Kurtz and his death. We finally started upriver with the Gm of the station, pilgrims, and cannibals.

As we got closer to the inner station, we found a hut along a riverbank. A note on a stack of firewood said “hurry up” and I found some form of sailing log inside. We stopped for the night by the hut and planned to continue in the morning. The morning came with dense fog, and we had to wait for it to burn off. As we were waiting, natives came along the riverbank, and we could not see them because of the fog. It was eerie to hear the natives and know they knew we were there without seeing them.

After the fog burnt off, we started back downriver. We came along a fork in the river, and we went down the west side. The river got quite narrow, and suddenly arrows were shooting at us. The pilgrims on the ship fired back with their weapons. Marlow’s helmsman was shot and passed away, but the pilgrims were happy with the idea that they probably killed a few of the natives. Marlow threw his helmsman overboard, and we continued down the river. Eventually, we made it to the inner station, and Kurtz wasn’t there. Although he was missing, we heard that he was alive! Marlow was excited at the news, but I am worried about what the company will make us do next.

Movie Review

The Movie I have chosen to review is Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens. The movie was released December 18, 2015, and directed by J.J. Abrams. Three of the Actors in the movie were from the original cast of Star Wars. Harrison Ford came back as Han Solo, Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, and Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia. The movie earned 2.068 Billion dollars in the box office. It has 92% rotten tomatoes and a 7.9/10 star rating on IMBD.

I personally thought that the movie was very well done. There are some great shots of the different planets in the movies, and the fight seances are very well choreographed. The characters also have good development and are set up nicely to continue their next movie journey. Although the movie is great, there are some things that I would have changed. The imperial base should have been another Death Star, like the originals, not a planate. Also, I think there would have been more options for the subsequent stories if Rye was a Sith and Fyn was a Jedi.

My new year’s resolution this year was to all around be healthier. Before the new year, I would go to the gym, but I would just skip a day if I did not have time. This year, I have been good about making it a priority to get to the gym every day. Along with going to the gym, I am trying to eat healthier. At first, it was easy. Being on break from school, I could cook for myself and go to the gym when I wanted. Now that school has started, it is harder to find time to go to the gym and cook healthier meals.

To eat healthier, I have tried to cut down on calories and stop eating fast foods. Another way to cut down on calories is to drink only water. Most of the meals I cook are simple. They consist of low-fat foods with as much protein and carbs as I can get. The meal I cook the most is grilled or baked chicken with rice, bell peppers, onions, corn, black beans, and a little siracha on top.

This weekend I spent most of my time hunting. My dad and I went hunting for a smaller bird called a woodcock. These birds nest in the underbrush of wooded areas. You hunt them using dogs. The dogs can smell them and track the bird to where it is hiding. You then walk up to the bird, causing it to spook and fly away. As the bird is flying, you shoot it out of the air.

These birds are fast in the air, which makes it difficult for you to shoot them. They are also small, which makes them hard to see. Although they are challenging to hunt, we limited out on both hunts this weekend. It was nice to get some time to bond with my dad. It is also a great workout.

Looking back over my time in the congo, I realize that my experiences were quite strange. I got my job with the company around the same time as Marlow. I was with Marlow for his whole journey. We both got our jobs when one of the companies captions passed away. We met at our check-up for the company, and we bonded over the strange check-up that the doctor gave us. After our examinations, we started our journey down the congo.

Marlow and I both started our journey with a weird feeling. The captain of the first ship we were, that took us to the outer station, talked about the congo and how it caused people to go insane. He said one Swedish man killed himself along the river. As we were hiking to the middle station, we saw natives being used as free labor. At the station, the workers seemed to be obsessed with a man named Mr. Kurtz. He was the director of the inner station and one of the best ivory traders on the congo. I am excited to meet him along the next part of my journey.

For this week’s free post, I’m going to be talking about my 2020. I have had a crazy year of unexpected twists and turns. The year started off like any other. I was starting the second semester of my 10th-grade year at runnels. We were preparing for baseball season and got to play a few games, then covid hit. I had a productive quarantine and worked out almost every day with my friends. We would go up to the Runnels baseball field and run and then lift weights in his garage.

In the second half of the year, I started at Episcopal. My first experience of the schools was summer workouts. My first day at school was strange. It was a new experience and scary to start at a new school. Although I was nervous, I was excited to start this new chapter in my life. I am grateful for the people that have accepted me into their friend groups and allowed for an easy transition into a new school. Although this year has been tuff, I would not trade it for the world.
