Happy New Year

Happy new year to all my followers. For this post, I will talk about all the crazy stats and happenings in the sports world through 2020. From the NBA bubble, canceled games, to no fans, 2020 has been an eventful year for sports. This year has brought unexpected triads and record-breaking contract extension. Now, let us get into the stats!

Although the NFL season has yet to finish the season, the Kansas City Cheifs look like favorites to win the Super Bowl, in part to excellent play from Patric Mahomes. This year Mahomes signed a $450,000,000 contract with the Chiefs. This is well deserved as Mahomes has put up crazy numbers with 4,740 passing yards and 38 touchdowns. Aaron Rodgers has also had a great year with 4,299 passing yards and 48 touchdowns.

In the NBA, Jason Tatum and Donovan Mitchell both signed contract extensions worth 195 million dollars. These extensions were the most expensive of 2020. This year the NBA transferred to a bubble due to covid 19. Although unfortunate that there were no fans, the bubble brought us breakout stars. My favorite breakout star was Duncan Robinson. he averaged 12.6 ppg with a 40.6 3p percentage.

The MLB was able to start their season, although there was a wait due to covid-19. There were a few teams with covid troubles through the season. The St. Louis Cardinals and the Miami Marlins were the teams that had the most trouble. Both the teams were able to make up the games and made it to the playoffs. The Atlanta Braves, who had a stellar season, led the league in all MLB players with 4. these players include Max Freid, Freddy Freeman, Marcell Ozuna, and Ronald Acuna Jr.

Bluebirds

The book that my group is reading is called Bluebirds. The book was written by Melvyn Fickling. The book is about the battle of Britain. This is a battle that was fought between the British and German air forces. Although the Germans had been superior all of the war, the British airforce was able to defeat them.  The British airforce had more numbers and radars, which allowed them to hear german planes coming. This ruined Germany’s idea of a sneak attack.

There are four main characters in the book. The story follows them as they decide to fight in the war and meet up together. The main characters all have different reasons for entering the war from protecting family, love of your country, and the thrill of killing. I am excited to read more of my book and get into the action. The beginning has been a little slow, but I think it will get more interesting as the war starts.

Free Post 11/10/20

For my Free post this week, I am going to talk about my favorite foods. Growing up, I have always enjoyed going out to eat. It’s always fun getting to go ta a fancy restaurant with my parent and get some food. I usually would not get the chance to eat. One of my favorite places to go is Mansurs on the Boulevard. They have many good dishes like the Ultimate Alfredeaux, which has crabmeat, crawfish, shrimp tossed with pasta and parmesan sauce, or steak and lobster. Although those dishes are good, my favorite is the Filet Mignon.

As much as I enjoy going out to eat, I also enjoy cooking food. When I am at home, I try to keep my cooking simple. My meals usually consist of Chicken, pasta, and vegetables or Ground beef, Potato’s, and vegetables. Cooking on the grill is one of my favorite things to do. Cooking steak, burgers, sausage, or boudin for people when they visit is very rewarding. It also allows me to spend time with friends and family and get some fresh air outside.

Free Post 11/5/20

In my free post this week, I will be talking about what baseball means to me. I have been playing baseball since I was 5 years old. Through those years, I have grown a love and respect for the game of baseball. IT has given me opportunities to make lifelong friends and some of the best memories I have. It has also allowed me to be closer to my father. Baseball is something that we bond over. Watching a baseball game in person or on T.V. with my dad is one of the best things the game has done for me.

Baseball has also helped me through some tuff times in my life. On the field or in the cages is a place I can go the clear my mind. If I feel anxious, nervous, or depressed, I can go to the field and come back feeling better. Not only does the field make me feel better, but my coaches did too. Baseball has allowed me to meet some amazing people that truly care for me. My coaches are there for me no matter what and always have my back, even if they aren’t coaching me anymore.

Initial Project Thoughts

This week we got our fearbusters project. When I first looked at the project, I felt a little overwhelmed. There were so many steps to the project, and I didn’t know how long we had to do it. Once we were out in our groups, and the project was explained, I was more comfortable with it. I have enjoyed doing research on the battle of Britain and am interested to learn more about it. I am looking forward to continuing to work on my project throughout the quarter.

I think that my group is working well together. We are going at a good pace and getting our work done. Although we are on pace, I could stay more focused. I find myself getting distracted, especially towards the end of class, while I am working. I think this is because the classes are longer than I am used to, and it is generally hard for me to stay focused for long periods of time. While working in class this week, I will try to stay more focused on the project and really get some work done.

Free Post 10/31/20

For this week’s free post, I will talk about the Auburn LSU game this Saturday. The game should be fun to watch and closely contested. Auburn got back in the win column last week beating Old Miss. The auburn running game is the best it has been in weeks and should be a problem for the LSU defense. If Auburn can get the run game going to open their offense, they should win the football game.

For LSU, they need to get their pass game going this week. If they can throw the ball well, the Auburn secondary may night be able to keep up. The Biggest weakness for LSU is their run defense. They have given up the second-most rush yards in the SEC this year. If the LSU defense cannot keep Auburn contained, there is no way they win the game this Saturday.

Free Post 10/24/20

For this free post, I am going to talk about my baseball games this weekend. This weekend I play at Southern University. It is always a cool experience to play at a large university, and I am looking forward to it. I play two games on Sunday. They should be good games.

The tuff game this weekend is against the Dirtbags.  I think we can win because we have our best pitcher on the mound, and the team has good chemistry. I’m confident I will have a good performance because I have been playing well this fall. The team needs to have timely hitting this week, not stranding runners on base.

Brexit Notes and Conclusions

While doing my research, I learned much about Brexit. I get the feeling from my research that the older generation in Britain is more for Brexit. This generation feels that they should be able to regulate their own borders and taxes, and they should only let who they want into the country. The younger generation, on the other hand, was against Brexit. They thought that people should be allowed to come into the country freely. They believed that the immigrant had a right to a safer country.

I believe that Brexit is based on xenophobia. The people that are for Brexit want to be able to control their own borders. They are afraid of the immigrants seeking asylum or a better life. They feel that they are taking jobs from the younger generation. The government says that they also want to regulate their own taxes and laws, but I feel Brexit’s main push is based on xenophobia.

NOTES

  • British Emps leave the EU parliament.
  • Britain could now make their own migration laws and regulate their borders how they want.
  • They could also regulate how they want. Taxes could be used to help British communities.
  • Xenophobia was linked to Britain wanting to leave the EU.
  • Also want less taxes.
  • Fear of Immigrants.
    • They may need asylum (More border control could make this harder)
    • They may take jobs
    • want to rule their own country  (more say)
  • The younger generation feels it is bad
    • Want to allow asylum
    • People want the freedom of travel (Brexit would cause restrictions)
      • The country was built on immigration
